The Cleveland Indians were in town to play the Twins, and the Dunkers were entertained by centerfielder Piersall and manager Dykes. Piersall spent most of his major league career with the Boston Red Sox. He suffered from bipolar disorder, and his story was told in the movie, Fear Strikes Out. Dykes came to Cleveland the year before in a rare trade of managers that sent Joe Gordon to Detroit. the event as a line skater in 1950 and retired 30 years later as one of the biggest names in the event's history.
